Sound the trumpet!
Havant Symphony Orchestra return to Waterlooville, post-pandemic, with a
fanfare! We are proud to bring you young, internationally-renowned
trumpeter Matilda Lloyd to play the sparkling Concerto by Hummel. One of
the few major solo pieces for the trumpet, played live by a former BBC Young
Musician of the Year finalist – this is an opportunity not to be
There’s a strong English feel to the rest of the programme with
Benjamin Britten and Edward Elgar both represented. The concert opens
with music evoking seascapes from Britten’s dark opera “Peter
Grimes” and ends with the magnificent characters depicted in
Elgar’s famous “Enigma Variations”. A short piece that
will be unfamiliar, but which we’re sure you’ll love is
Liadov’s “Kikimora” – the tale of an evil character
from Slavic folklore.
