Covid-19 precautions will be in effect at this concert for the safety and comfort of the audience and players.  Seating is being spaced out with distancing between separately purchased groups of tickets.  There will be no pre-concert talk and no refreshments will be provided during the interval, although audience members are welcome to bring their own refreshments.

Our original trumpet soloist Matilda Lloyd is unfortunately unable to play because of needing emergency dental treatment, but Matilda has very helpfully arranged for another outstanding player, Zoë Perkins, also a BBC Young Musician brass finalist, to perform the Hummel in her place.

We wish Matilda a speedy recovery and return to playing.

Sound the trumpet!

Havant Symphony Orchestra return to Waterlooville, post-pandemic, with a fanfare!  We are proud to bring you young trumpeter Zoë Perkins to play the sparkling Concerto by Hummel.  One of the few major solo pieces for the trumpet, played live by a former BBC Young Musician of the Year Brass finalist – this is an opportunity not to be missed!

There’s a strong English feel to the rest of the programme with Benjamin Britten and Edward Elgar both represented.  The concert opens with music evoking seascapes from Britten’s dark opera “Peter Grimes” and ends with the magnificent characters depicted in Elgar’s famous “Enigma Variations”.  A short piece that will be unfamiliar, but which we’re sure you’ll love is Liadov’s “Kikimora” – the tale of an evil character from Slavic folklore.
