21st October 2017 |
As the musical director of both Havant Orchestras, he conducted Havant Symphony Orchestra for 50 years and also Havant Chamber Orchestra for most of that time before retiring in December 2012 due to ill health. He will be sadly missed by all of us who enjoyed making music with him. We send our deepest sympathy to his wife Sandra and his family. If anyone needs to know details of the funeral arrangements, please contact the Havant Orchestras administrator, Stella Scott, and we will try to make sure you are kept informed. In the longer term we hope that there will be a memorial concert of some sort and we will let you know about arrangements for that when we have them.
We have also received many kind comments and reminiscences from those who
knew him, which we are passing on to his family, and we also hope
to share some of them more widely later.

16th July 2017 | We are very pleased to announce that the Bob Harding Bursary Award for Young Conductors for the season 2017-18 has been awarded to Richard Miller, nominated by the Royal College of Music. All three candidates at this year’s auditions were of an excellent standard and it was very difficult to choose between them, with the players and the selection panel being similarly supportive of all three candidates. However, the award aims to provide additional opportunities for a young conductor while giving the orchestra the exciting experience of being conducted by a developing musical talent, and we felt that Richard was in the best position to maximise the combined benefit to the student and to the orchestra. We are eagerly looking forward to working with Richard throughout the next season. | |
