The Peter and Sandra Craddock Memorial Fund

Peter Craddock BEM, founder of the Havant Orchestras and musical director for the first 50 years, passed away in October 2017.  He is greatly missed by those who enjoyed making music with him.

The Havant Orchestras had a combined special concert on 3rd March 2019 to celebrate our memories of Peter Craddock and his achievements.

We would like Peter’s name to continue to be associated with the Havant Orchestras long into the future, and for supporters of the orchestra to be able to show their appreciation for his work by making donations to a fund in his name to help the orchestras thrive and develop.

We already have various loyal supporters, both individuals and organizations, who make valuable donations that help to support the Havant and District Orchestral Society (HADOS), but we would like to make this contribution more visible and make it easier for supporters to be able to see how much their donations help to support the orchestras.

To achieve these aims, our plan is that any donations to HADOS other than those for specific purposes (such as sponsorship of a soloist or work) will from now on be counted as contributions to The Peter and Sandra Craddock Memorial Fund*, which will then be used to fund selected costs as agreed by the committee, such as the hire of copyright music and fees for soloists, with this contribution being acknowledged in the programme booklets and in the annual accounts.  If sufficient funding is received, we hope to schedule additional events such as children’s concerts in future seasons.

We would be very happy to receive initial donations towards this fund, but what would be even more helpful to the society would be regular annual donations, to provide more predictable funding as a basis for planning future events.

Donations can be made by cheque payable to “HADOS”, preferably with “Craddock Fund” written on the back for our information, or by bank transfer (or even better, standing order) to the HADOS bank account, preferably with “PC Fund” included in the reference:

CAF Bank, Sort code 40-52-40, Account no. 00017022

As the society is a registered charity, the value of any donation from a current taxpayer to the society can be increased significantly by the Gift Aid scheme, where the government adds a further contribution of 25% (equivalent to refunding basic rate tax at 20% on the total donation).  If you pay tax and have not previously filled in a Gift Aid form for HADOS, please ask us for a Gift Aid declaration form, or you can download and print one from here, then either email a scanned copy to the Havant Orchestras administrator, havantorchestras@gmail.com, or post it to the administrator at the address on the Contacts page.  If you pay tax at a higher rate and keep track of your Gift Aid donations, you can reclaim the tax rate difference on your tax return.

If you would like your name to be listed as a donor for the current season, please let us know, as otherwise we cannot publish any such details.

All donations to this fund will be used to support the activities of Havant and District Orchestral Society (HADOS), also known as The Havant Orchestras, Registered Charity No 288747

* Update 13th November 2021:
Peter’s wife Sandra Craddock passed away in October 2021.  Sandra was for many years the administrator of the Havant Orchestras, supporting Peter, but had to step down at the end of 2012 to care for Peter when he was unable to continue as musical director due to ill health.  Sandra handled not only all administration and publicity, but also many other roles, including organising the front-of-house teams and providing legendary hospitality for soloists and bursary student conductors!  In recognition of her huge contribution, we decided to rename the fund to The Peter and Sandra Craddock Memorial Fund to remember them jointly.
