Pre-concert talk

We are delighted that Tim Griffiths (Principal Viola) is again able to give pre-concert talks for us and hope that you will enjoy his wide knowledge and experience!

This time, Tim will talk about the period in English classical music when the pieces in this concert were written.  This ‘Golden Age’ in English music produced a wealth of beautiful and dramatic music, influenced by many factors including war and the development of film.

Join Tim at 6.30pm in the Church and then enjoy a cup of tea or coffee before the concert starts.

Peter and Sandra Craddock Fund

We are grateful for all donations to HADOS.  We put these into the Peter and Sandra Craddock Fund and the committee decides how to use this money.

At our recent committee meeting we agreed to focus spending from the Fund this year on new education and outreach projects — details to be decided.

Concert Report

Our last two concerts were by Havant Symphony Orchestra on 8th July and 16th September at Oaklands and Hayling Community Centre respectively.

The ‘Last Night of the Proms’ in July was not as well-attended as we had hoped and was not financially successful.  However, those who were there, including the Mayor of Havant, Councillor Rosy Raines, and her Consort, thoroughly enjoyed it!

Our annual visit to Hayling Island Community Centre was great fun and a triumph for both outgoing Bursary Holder James Thomas, who put together a superb concert on very little rehearsal, and for Thomas Luke whose performance of the Piano Concerto No. 2 by Saint-Saens was outstanding.  The Mayor of Havant was once more in attendance and reported on facebook that she was (unusually) left speechless when meeting Thomas Luke after his thrilling performance!  Our thanks to James who took time out of beginning his studies at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in order to conduct this concert.

Enyi Okpara

Bursary Awarded

We are delighted to announce that, following auditions on 14th July, the Bob and Beryl Harding Bursary for Student Conductors 2023-24 was awarded to Enyi Okpara who is a post-graduate student at the Royal Academy of Music.

There is still uncertainty over whether Enyi can join us for December, due to a clash with another event, but we look forward to seeing him for rehearsals for the March concert if not before!
