Concerts for 2023/24 Season

 First   Last

Welcome to the 2023–24 Season of concerts by The Havant Orchestras

If you haven’t recently experienced the thrill of attending a live orchestral concert with your friends and neighbours, here is your chance!  The two Havant Orchestras enable talented local players to get together to create high quality performances for the local community at affordable prices, working with outstanding soloists, including familiar local musicians, up-and-coming new talent and established international performers.  This season’s concerts include some particularly famous works and popular local soloists but also some interesting works which are new to the orchestras.

Oaklands School Hall

Havant Symphony Orchestra (HSO) main concerts are at Oaklands Catholic School in Waterlooville, an excellent venue for the power of a full symphony orchestra.

Following the success of last year’s Winter and Spring concerts, these concerts are again in the afternoon rather than the evening.

  • In December, we welcome popular local soloist Valentina Seferinova to play Rachmaninov’s famous second piano concerto.  As for last year, the second half includes a selection of seasonal items.
  • In March, violinist Joo Yeon Sir returns to play the lively Khachaturian violin concerto, and the concert also includes Dvořák’s “New World” Symphony.
  • The Summer concert in July includes Elgar’s famous Cello Concerto with soloist Joseph Spooner and concludes with Brahms’ famous first symphony.

Before the main concerts, HSO also has its usual pre-season concert of Popular Classics at Hayling Island Community Centre, conducted by our recent bursary student James Thomas

Havant Chamber Orchestra (HCO) will be continuing to perform at Holy Trinity Church on West Street, Fareham, in order to remain convenient for local audience members after the closure of Ferneham Hall, due to reopen in late 2024 as Fareham Live.

  • October’s concert features the HCO Strings performing works by English composers, including works by Walton, Elgar and Vaughan Williams, plus our own star clarinettist Rob Blanken playing the Finzi concerto.
  • In February, local young violinist Alexandra Peel will perform Mozart’s fourth violin concerto, in between works with an Italian connection from Schubert and Mendelssohn.
  • In May, we set the scene with Delius, then nine of our wind players perform Gounod’s Petite Symphonie for Wind.  The concert then concludes with Mozart’s Symphony No. 40.
