This is a summary of older news items for this web site, with links to more details further down the page or elsewhere on the site.  Note that some old links on this page may no longer work, or may no longer be active.

5th December 2016 Perhaps the most remarkable development since Jonathan Butcher became HSO’s musical director is the advance of players promoted to principal roles. … See our Reviews page for a link to Mike Allen’s review of the HSO concert in the Portsmouth News.
30th November 2016 HSO players please note that our usual parking arrangements at Oaklands School for the Friday and Saturday are not possible this time because access around the back is currently closed off for over-running building refurbishment work.  Please enter via the main entrance instead, and use the audience parking areas as described on the Oaklands directions page.  Further details were given in an email from Tony Gutteridge earlier today.  If you don’t need to be particularly close to the hall, then on Saturday please park further away to leave the closer spaces available for audience members.
25th November 2016 The Havant Orchestras Newsletter for December 2016 is now available, including additional information about the HSO concert with Shiry Rashkovsky at Oaklands School, Waterlooville, on Saturday 3rd December.
17th October 2016 Even in her early 20s, Savitri Grier seems a more mature musician than many twice her age. … See our Reviews page for a link to Mike Allen’s review of the HCO concert in the Portsmouth News.

19th August 2016 Havant Symphony Orchestra broadens its horizons in its new season…  The Portsmouth News has published a preview of next season by Mike Allen, who has been discussing the HSO programmes with Jonathan Butcher.
15th July 2016 We are very pleased to announce that the Bob Harding Bursary Award for Young Conductors for the season 2016-17 has been awarded to Tom Griffin, from the Royal Marines School of Music.

The players enjoyed working with both of the excellent candidates at this year’s auditions.  As the other candidate was already busy with other conducting opportunities, we felt that Tom would benefit more from the award.

10th July 2016 In line with the Havant orchestras’ tradition of venturing off the beaten musical track, John Ireland’s piano concerto was a piquant centrepiece in the Oaklands hall’s warm yet clear acoustics. … See our Reviews page for a link to Mike Allen’s review of the HSO concert in the Portsmouth News.
2nd July 2016 The Havant Orchestras Newsletter for July 2016 is now available, including additional information about the HSO concert with Viv McLean at Oaklands School, Waterlooville, on Saturday 9th July.
2nd July 2016 A year ago, our website moved to www.havantorchestras.org.uk.  The old website www.havantorchestras.hampshire.org.uk was set up to redirect requests automatically to the new site, but it is going away at the end of this month (July 2016) so please ensure that any bookmarks or links to this site are updated to use the new name.  See the original news item from last year for more information.
16th May 2016 Founder-conductor Peter Craddock’s aim of programming music off the beaten track was delightfully honoured by the HCO in its final concert of the 2015-16 season. … See our Reviews page for a link to Mike Allen’s review of the HCO concert in the Portsmouth News.
6th May 2016 2016-17 season announced!  Full details of the Havant Orchestras main concert programme for the 2016/17 season are now available on this website, together with information about booking season tickets.  As there are still more concerts in the current season, the main Concerts and Tickets navigation buttons at the top of page will still take you to the current season’s details for now, but you can then select the button on the right for next season's details.

Additional details will be made available later for the pre-season ‘Popular Classics’ concert by Havant Symphony Orchestra at Hayling Island Community Centre on 24th September 2016 and for an additional strings concert by Havant Chamber Orchestra at Emsworth Baptist Church on 11th March 2017.

Printed brochures and season ticket forms will be available at concerts, and supplies of brochures will also be made available in the Ferneham Hall foyer and via other locations such as local libraries and information centres.

6th May 2016 The Havant Orchestras Newsletter for May 2016 is now available, including additional information about the HCO concert with Karen Kingsley at Ferneham Hall, Fareham, on Saturday 14th May.
21st March 2016 With violinists in short supply, this was not the easiest concert for the bigger of the Havant orchestras – but the performances were well-tailored to the circumstances. … See our Reviews page for a link to Mike Allen’s review of the HSO concert in the Portsmouth News.
11th March 2016 The Havant Orchestras Newsletter for March 2016 is now available, including additional information about the HSO concert with Joo Yeon Sir at Oaklands School, Waterlooville, on Saturday 19th March.
10th March 2016 Downloadable copies of our flyers in PDF format are now available, normally for the next one or two concerts, so you can email copies to people who might not see the website.  Each flyer can be downloaded via the thumbnail image in the notes on the relevant concert programme page.  The notes (which are the same as those on the flyer) and the link to the flyer will normally appear a couple of weeks before the preceding concert, when the flyer for the next concert is sent for printing.  You can either click the thumbnail image to open the PDF file in your browser first then save a copy, or you can right-click on the thumbnail and use ‘Save link as...’ to download the PDF file without opening it first.
9th February 2016 An enterprising piece of programming was tarnished by a failure to provide adequate lighting.  … See our Reviews page for a link to Mike Allen’s review of the HCO concert in the Portsmouth News.
30th January 2016 We have just been informed (in response to the latest Newsletter) that the date of the next Solent Symphony Orchestra concert has been changed from 13th February to 20th February but we had not previously been notified of this change.  We have now updated our Events page accordingly.  We are sorry the printed and emailed copies of the latest Newsletter therefore had the incorrect date for this concert (although the web copy has now been corrected).

The reason for the date change was to avoid a clash with another event Sing for Sophie at St Paul’s Church, Chichester, in aid of St. Wilfrid’s Hospice and in support of cellist Sophie McNestrie (who played for a long time with HCO) in her battle with cancer.
30th January 2016 The Havant Orchestras Newsletter for February 2016 is now available, including additional information about the HCO concert with The Albany Piano Trio at Ferneham Hall, Fareham, on Saturday 6th February.
